Shem Creek

Although Mount Pleasant has such proximity to Charleston, this town has lots to offer without crossing the bridge! One of Mount Pleasant’s most popular attractions is the Shem Creek. This boardwalk, which sits on a creek has just about everything, from delicious restaurants, fun bars, to places to tie your boat. Enjoy a drink at Red’s rooftop bar, which has a beautiful view of the harbor and creek. Historically, Shem Creek was known for its shrimp fishing. Red’s Ice House was the first ice house that would take in the fresh shrimp to ice them. Now turned into a restaurant and bar, they have become extremely popular!

History

Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens

Surprising to some, Mount Pleasant holds a ton of history. A big favorite is The Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens, a plantation that was founded in 1681 by an Englishman by the name of John Boone. Boone Hall, which was opened to the public in 1956, runs tours daily, and farms year-round. Boone Hall is one of America’s oldest working farms! Now owned by the McRae family, Boone hall is highly well kept to maintain its high tourist volume. If you love Nicholas Spark’s “The Notebook” you may recognize some scenes from around the plantation! For more information on homes for sale in Mount Pleasant, SC, please contact Jon Stroud!
